Our Social Action Coordinating Committee supports UUCV’s commitment to active engagement in justice efforts of all kinds by supporting church members who wish to form their own action teams around different issues. Through these groups, members and friends act out their UU principles in a variety of different ways: whether by providing direct services, working as allies with community groups, advocating for systemic change, or by learning more about specific social justice issues of interest to them.
Current Action Groups include:
- Lift Up Your Voice (LUYV), which advocates on behalf of the homeless (Contact person, Sue Brinkmeyer)
- The 7th Principle Environmental Action Team (Contact person, Kitty Merrill)
- Will Rogers Elementary School Support Team (Contact person, Dan Flores)
They meet monthly to mentor action teams, share information about events, and to vet and approve use of congregational resources for short term social justice projects.
The committee is composed a chair, appointed by the board of trustees to a two year term, a representative from each action team, and additional interested members. Contact person for SACC is Letty Ball.
