  • Humanism Seminar

    March 26, 2017 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

    SSEMINAR IN HUMANIST PHILOSOPHY
This seminar begins its 10th year this fall. Participants discuss readings on the nature, history and desired future of social ethics, with a view to advancing human welfare. Another concern is scientific methodology as the source of provisional truth about the universe and all life forms. Analytic thinking, rather than recall, is the modus operandi. One can enter the seminar at any time. The only expense is the purchase of agreed-upon books from time to time.

    Days:  Second and Fourth Sunday
    Time:  11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
    Location:  Conference Room

  • River Haven dinner pickup

    March 27, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Riverhaven is a transitional living space for up to 25 individuals. It began about a decade ago, with the city of Ventura providing a space for homeless people to to bring their own tents and sleeping bags enabling them to camp out in a community setting. Originally they had no water or electricity. We connected them to a water source, helped in the construction of domes for shelter, and helped them build a community garden.
We also provide them with hot meals on the fourth Monday of each month. To help with this endeavor you can contact me, Harold Cartlidge, 805 701-9672, hcartlidge@aol.com. Or you can sign up at the Social Action table in Berg Hall to provide either a main dish, salad or dessert.

  • Pathway to Membership

    March 29, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

PATHWAY TO MEMBERSHIP WORKSHOPS & EVENTS
The poster on the Membership Bulletin Board in Berg Hall lists 10 good reasons for joining a Unitarian Universalist congregation. Two of my favorites are: "Because here we acknowledge that revelation is never sealed and empower ourselves to search for new truths. Because here we nurture our children's enthusiasms and encourage their questions."
The Pathway to Membership Workshops are for those who are wanting to know more about this congregation, the Unitarian Universalism tradition, and to connect with others who are also seeking. There is no assumption that you will become a member if you attend these workshops and attendance is a requirement for Membership. Come and be informed - and then decide what is best for you.
These workshops and events are hosted by Beverly Jordan, Reverend Dana, and the Membership Committee.
    Wednesday, March 29 pm, 6:30 - 8:30, Part I.
Saturday, April 8, 10 - 2, Part II. (Lunch Provided)
Wednesday, May 3, 6:30 - 7:30, Celebration for New Members. Gather of newest members with the Membership Committee and church leaders.
Sunday, May 7, New Member Sunday.
Register in Berg Hall at the Adult Programs Table or email Beverly Jordan with your questions and/or registration. (Beverly@uuventura.org) Child care is provided with pre-registration.

    UU Hikers

Days: First Saturday and second Thursday of each month

We are a group of walkers from the Ventura UU congregation who enjoy an occasional moderately challenging hike. Some hikes are more challenging than others. Choose a hike appropriate for your ability. Most of our walks are from five to eight miles with an elevation gain usually less than 1000”. They generally take from a half day to a full day including driving. We mix it up every now and then with a short back pack trip. Anyone who is physically capable of comfortably completing our walk is welcome. Capable guests are welcome. Talk to Mike Sixbey or Vel Akseven to be sure you are signing up for an appropriate hike. Enjoy the adventure, the exercise, the view, the company.
