    FUN BOOK CLUB
    The Fun Book Club enjoys reading for the fun of it. Upcoming books are announced in the church newsletter. Anyone who has read the chosen book of the month is welcome to participate. Book club guides are often used to facilitate the lively monthly discussions. Both fiction and nonfiction are included. If you love to read and wish to share that love with others, join Fun Book Club.

    Fun Book Club is usually held on the 3rd Sunday at 11:30am on the couches in the rear of the sanctuary. We read and discuss one book
    a month. We have questions to facilitate the discussion.

    Charlas Contemporaneas is for UUCV members and friends who speak Spanish and enjoy connecting with each other in Spanish.
    Durante la hora y media de la junta tendremos bastante tiempo para explorar varias ideas y temas contemporaneas. Aunque los temas serán interesantes, el propósito de la junta es siempre él de hablar en español. Por ahorita vamos a juntarnos en los "Alcoves" del santuario. Más adelante podemos juntarnos in casas particulares or en restaurantes o tal vez en Berg Hall.

  • Women's Group

    Women's Support Groups are open to women who are members and friends of the church. They provide ongoing sharing and support to one another in a small group setting. Prospective members are asked to contact Anne about availability of current openings. There is usually a short wait until one of the groups has an opening or until a new group forms.

  • T'ai Chi Chih ®

    T’ai Chi Chih® is offered by Lisa Otero, an accredited instructor who has been a practitioner for 20 years. The classes provide instruction and offer the opportunity to practice a set of 19 gentle movement sets and one pose that focus on developing the body’s intrinsic energy, the Chi. This moving meditation is easy to learn and promotes balance, physical fitness, and inner calm. T’ai Chi Chih® can be modified to any level of physical ability and can be practiced seated. Beginners are welcome in every class.
    T'ai Chi Chih® classes are held weekly on Mondays, 5:30-6:30 pm. Course fee: $10. No registration necessary; you are welcome to drop-in and to come whenever convenient.

    FRIENDSHIP SANGHA OF THE HEART (BUDDHIST MEDITATION)
    The Friendship Sangha of the Heart practices mindfulness meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. Monday evening meditation includes silent sitting meditation, silent walking meditation, inspirational readings, singing/chanting, and an opportunity to share about the meditation practice. This weekly program is open to anyone who wants to meditate. To learn more about this practice you are welcome to attend a once a month introduction. A silent potluck vegetarian meal is held when a fifth Monday occurs in a month, about four times a year

    The Thursday Book Group reads a variety of thought provoking books, both fiction and non fiction. They read from 50 to 70 pages a week and discuss what they read as they progress through the chapters. You are encouraged to join them if you like to think, read and socialize.

    Our September outing will be a trip to Camarillo. The trip is scheduled for Thursday, September 21st. Car pools will leave the Church parking lot at 11:30 am to travel to the SOUP PLANTATION IN Camarillo for lunch at 11:45-12:00pm. We are saying goodby to Sunny Glessner who will be leaving Ventura County to be closer to family in mid October. Sunny requested this particular tour.
    Directions to the Restaurant. Take 101 Fwy. South to Las Posas road. Exit the Fwy. And turn right and right again into the Shopping Center there. The Soup Plantation is at 375 W. Ventura Blvd., faces the Fwy and is directly across from Staples. All welcome to join us for lunch.
    After lunch, we will take 101 S to the historic Camarillo Ranch House. Take exit 53A(Dawson Drive) Turn right onto Petit St. Curve around and then turn right onto N. Dawson Drive. Turn right on Mission Oaks Blvd then turn left onto Camarillo Ranch road to 201 Camarillo Ranch road. Camarillo Ranch road is 0.1 mile past Flynn road.
    There is a $5:00 donation to tour the Ranch House. I need to send the Ranch House a count of those attending a week before our tour which would be the 14th of September accompanied by a check for the total number attending. Merle and I will need to collect $5:00 from all going to the Ranch House. We can do that anytime either at the Restaurant or at the Ranch House.
    We are very fortunate to be able to tour this beautiful Home of the Adolfo Camarillo family. There is an orientation video about 18 minutes in length which is: The Story of Rancho Camarillo.” There is an gift shop and a handicap lift for access to the first floor of the home.
    Adolfo Camarillo Ranch House also known as Ranch Calleguas s a Queen Anne -style Victorian House. Built in 1892, the 6,000 square foot house was designed by Architects Herman Anlauf and Franklin Ward. NOTE: If you wish to make this trip either by carpool or in your own vehicle, PLEASE LET MERLE AND PAT KNOW either by phone (642-6316) or our new E-mail address at 1637wpso@gmail.com. Car pools will meet and leave from the Church at 11:303am. CAR POOLING ENCOURAGED.
