Protesting California's Proposition 8

During the brief “window” when same-sex marriage was legal in California in 2008, before the passage of Proposition 8, UUCV members gathered at the Ventura County Courthouse on the first day to sing “Standing on the Side of Love” and offer cupcakes and splits of champagne to couples as they came out of the County Clerk’s office. Two ceremonies for member couples were held at our church during that time, with widespread celebration among our congregation.

Although the church does not have an action group devoted to LGBTQ issues, we have encouraged and sponsored the local PFLAG chapter, as well as our congregation’s Interweave chapter and other groups while helping them get free use of our meeting rooms. We are a Welcoming Congregation.
