An opportunity was seen in Ventura for people who were homeless or formerly homeless to share their stories in the community. Lift Up Your Voice was asked to facilitate this and we gladly agreed. Judy Alexandre secured a grant and arranged for a non-profit in San Francisco to train the homeless in how to tell their stories and be advocates in the community, visiting churches and schools, to be the faces of homelessness. These people are housed in shelters and the trainees are paying for their own lodging. For our part, LUYV will provide breakfast and lunch both days for 10 people, July 16 and 17. We feel blessed to be able to host this and we will have LUYV members with them constantly during the training. Keep us all in your thoughts as we work together with our special project.
Lift Up Your Voice meets the second Thursday of each month at 6pm. Please join us if you would like to learn about or join our congregation’s efforts to assist the homeless in Ventura County with advocacy and hands on involvement. Contact Kathy Powell firstname.lastname@example.org or 805/910-8860.
